Terrebonne Parish Drainage Study
Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana
FTN was hydrologic and hydraulic consultant for the Terrebonne Parish, LA, master drainage plan which included:
- Development of baseline maps;
- Development of a drainage design manual;
- Determination of flood levels for the 2-, 5-, 10-, 25-, and 100-year events;
- Development of computer models;
- Determination of appropriate flood management alternatives; and
- Evaluation of flood management alternatives.
FTN supervised the installation of rain, staff, and recorder stage gages to supplement a limited existing database. Since Terrebonne Parish is subjected to flooding both from storm surges on the Gulf of Mexico and inland runoff, joint probability concepts were used to accurately determine flood frequencies. HEC 1 was used for runoff modeling for over 200 basins. The numerous distributaries and manmade canals that connected natural conveyance canals complicated the computation of maximum water surface profiles using HEC 2. The models and associated drainage software were turned over to the Parish to aid in their ongoing program of stormwater management.
