University of Arkansas, Gregg Remediation Site
Fayetteville, Arkansas
Anecdotal accounts by retired members of the university staff indicated that chemical containers were buried in shallow trenches at the site in the late 1960s. The quantity and contents of the chemical containers were unknown. FTN assisted the UA in voluntarily initiating and implementing an investigation to identify environmental impacts and bring the site to closure. Specific responsibilities of FTN during the project included:
Coordinating with the US Geological Survey to conduct a magnetometer survey, electromagnetic survey, and resistivity profiling to delineate locations of trenches.
Soil and groundwater sampling to identify environmental impacts, and identification of remedial options.
Assisted the UA in negotiating a Consent Administrative Order with the ADEQ for voluntary cleanup.
Prepared a Site Investigation Report and Remediation Plan for ADEQ approval.
Developed bid specifications and assisted the UA in selecting a removal contractor.
Conducted follow-up field investigations and prepared a Closure Report for ADEQ approval.
Site was closed in June 2003. Client received Ready for Reuse Determination from EPA Region 6, the first ever awarded to a public facility in Arkansas, for cleaning up the site and returning in to productive use.
