Little Rock Air Force Base Stormwater Compliance Study
Little Rock, Arkansas
FTN conducted a stormwater compliance study for the NPDES outflow 003 at the LRAFB. Readings for pH at the outfall had dropped below 6 su and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality required the Air Force Base to
- confirm the source of the low pH reading, and
- correct the problem or develop a plan to correct it.
FTN reviewed historical data, conducted a site reconnaissance, collected baseline and stormwater data, and performed an alternative analysis including no action, permit modifications, and passive treatment. The source of the low pH water appeared to be related to remediation activities in the basin. It was recommended additional buffering capacity be added to the outfall for possible treatment.
