Bayou Meto Wetland Planning Area Report
Eastern Arkansas

As part of the overall State Wetland Strategy, the Multiagency Wetland Planning Team (MAWPT) is preparing wetland conservation, restoration, and enhancement plans for several watersheds or wetland planning areas in the Arkansas Delta. Based on our extensive experience in wetland ecosystems throughout the state and Delta region, with watershed studies, and GIS, CADD, and desktop publishing capabilities, FTN was selected to assist the MAWPT in preparing the Bayou Meto Wetland Planning Area Report. Available data and information were collected on the physiographic, biological, and socioeconomic characteristics of the watershed to describe the current characteristics of the watershed in Part I of the report.

In addition to general watershed characteristics, Part I focuses on historical and existing wetlands present within the watershed; wildlife and waterfowl habitats; threatened and endangered species habitats and aquatic habitats within the Bayou Meto planning area; changes in the watershed since the early 1900s; and potential future impacts to wetlands. GIS and CADD were used to visually display these characteristics over the 1,500 square mile wetland planning area. Part II of the report, which will be prepared by the MAWPT, will present the proposed plan for prioritizing wetland conservation, protection, enhancement, and restoration efforts within the Bayou Meto watershed. FTN will prepare a colored, glossy report using PageMaker7 software and a four color printing process when both parts of the report are completed. This report will provide local officials, planners, state and federal agencies, and private landowners with information needed to assist in decision-making regarding continued economic development and resources management within the Bayou Meto watershed.
