FTN prepared the design and construction documents for an advanced wastewater treatment facility at an ammunition manufacturing plant.
The existing wastewater treatment system treated the wastewater for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), oil and grease, pH, and heavy metals. Additional polishing treatment was needed to meet higher effluent limits established in the company’s latest NPDES permit
FTN evaluated and pilot-tested different treatment options and recommended a constructed wetlands system. The design included converting a portion of an abandoned 30-million-gallon retention basin into a constructed wetland system. The project also included yard piping, influent and effluent flow measuring/monitoring facilities, an effluent pump station with VFD controls, and a SCADA system to control and monitor the system.
FTN further assisted the company in obtaining approval from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality and bidding assistance.
This project received an Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arkansas.
